1701 Bespoke is the perfect fit if you’re looking for an exceptional custom suit experience. I had a suit made for my daughter’s wedding and it exceeded my expectations. It feels like Max has a modern version of the classic tailoring business. Very professional. Well done!!!

I’m a taller guy and it’s always been tough to find suits and sport coats that fit well. Off the rack usually means spending a fortune on alterations and still not getting it quite right. Going custom at 1701 Bespoke meant that got exactly what I wanted from the start. Max really took the time to get everything dialed in and made the whole experience easy and worth it

I went to 1701 Bespoke to have a custom tuxedo made for my wedding. The entire experience from the initial consultation/fitting, to selecting the material and design of the tux, to the adjustments and pick-up were absolutely top notch. The end product is exactly what I had hoped for in ordering a custom tux, and Max made the experience personable and relaxed. 10/10 recommendation and I intend to be going back for more wardrobe pieces.

Asked
Questions

The Online Custom Suit Process

How does buying a custom suit online actually work?

You work one-on-one with a tailor that helps guide you through fabrics, as well as gives you advice on what what colors and styles best suit you.

The first step is to book a video call, then get measured by a tailor and submit the measurements to us.

Then you’ll have your video call where you get advice on what fabrics to pick that best out your lifestyle.

For more information, check out How to Buy a Custom Suit Online and Is Picking Fabrics Hard?

How much does an average two-piece suit cost?

Pricing all depends on what you’re looking for and the fabric you select. For a two-piece suit, we range from $2500-8000, with an average suit usually being anywhere between $3500-4500.

If you’re looking for something that you can wear every week, we have robust wools between $2500 and $3500 but if you’re looking for more luxury for special occasions, I would budget $4000-6000

How long does the process take from start to finish?

Most custom suits take 6–8 weeks from your consultation to delivery, depending on fabric and season.

Is this made to measure or bespoke?

These are high-end made-to-measure garments built from refined base patterns and adjusted specifically to you—not off-the-rack conversions.

What happens if my suit needs adjustments after it arrives?

Minor alterations are expected. We cover your local tailoring costs and update your fit profile for future orders, so your fit gets better and better every time.

Do I work with the same tailor every time?

Yes. Your measurements, preferences, and fit notes are saved so future orders are faster and even more precise.

Whenever your have questions or want to someone to bounce off clothing ideas, you can always reach out to your clothier.

Fabrics & Italian Craftsmanship

Where are the suits made?

All suits are made in Italy, outside of Rome, by a heritage factory that focuses exclusively on high quality tailoring.

What fabric mills do you offer?

We work with mills like Loro Piana, Zegna, Dormeuil, and Ariston, among many others.

How do I know which fabric is right for me?

We will guide you. During our initial video call, you’ll be educated on the make up of fabrics, their weight and their special characteristics.

So when it comes time to start choosing fabrics, your clothier can show you different options they think will work for you and you’ll have the ability to determine exactly what’s best.

Are these fabrics different from what I’d find in stores?

Absolutely. Many of our fabrics are tailor-only bunches not available through retail brands or department stores.

Will the fabric wrinkle easily?

That depends on the weave and fiber. For example, linen wrinkles very easily while mohair is very wrinkle-resistant.

We can recommend fabrics specifically chosen for travel, long days, or minimal maintenance. It all depends on what you’re looking for.

How often do you refresh your fabrics?

Twice a year we get new bunches in from different English and Italian mills. Most of these new fabrics are seasonal, either fall/winter or spring/summer, but we also get new all-year round fabrics in twice a year.

Fit, Style & Confidence

How accurate is the fit compared to an in-person tailor?

In-person fittings are always the best, but our online process is the next best thing.

The most important thing in getting a great fitting custom suit online is accurate measurements.

That’s why we recommend seeing a professional tailor. Measuring may appear simple, but getting proper measurements involves understanding what the measurement is used for and the proper way to take the measurement.

So to get the best results, get your measurmeents done professionally.

What if I don’t know what style suits me?

You may not think you know what style you like, but when picking out fabrics, you’ll end up telling your clothier what you like and dislike, which will outline the boundaries of your unique style.

You’re not the only one that struggles with picking out fabrics. That’s why we’re here.

Can this fix issues I’ve always had with suits?

Yes. Common problems like tight shoulders, short jackets, pulling chest, tight seat & loose waist, and too tight of thighs can all be fixed by going custom.

Will this look noticeably better than off-the-rack?

Yes. Cleaner shoulders, balanced proportions, and proper length are immediately visible—even to people who don’t know tailoring.

Is this too formal for everyday wear?

No. We design based on how you actually live—business, events, travel, or daily wear.

Can I reorder easily once my fit is dialed in?

Yes. That’s one of the biggest advantages. Your second and third suits are faster and even more precise.

Wardrobe Building & long-term Guidance

Can this help me build a wardrobe over time instead of just one suit?

We plan pieces intentionally. Each suit is designed to complement what you already own and leave room for future additions, so your wardrobe stays cohesive instead of random.

Will you help me decide what to buy first?

Absolutely. We’ll start off by asking what you have that works and what you think you need. Then we can go over some basic ideas on how to build a versatile, long-term wardrobe, and decide together where we should go next.

Do you keep track of my preferences and past orders?

Yes, everything is documented. We can see what you’ve ordered in the past, and suggest what fabrics to go long with what you already have.

What if my needs change over time?

That’s expected. As your career, lifestyle, or body changes, we adapt fabrics, structure, and styling to match where you are.

There may be times when new measurements are needed, but most of the time saying “a little bit more in the waist” can work wonders.

Can this extend beyond suits?

Yes. Shirts, trousers, knitwear, overcoats, jeans, chinos, and shoes can all be built around the same fit logic and aesthetic, creating a complete wardrobe system.

We can go over color schemes and styles together that best represent your personality.

Why is ongoing guidance important in menswear?

Most people randomly buy clothes instead of having a guided system in which each new addition works with the last.

We’ll help you build that system so you get dressed in the morning and effortless look stylishly without having to put any thought into it.
